CTU Softball Team Update

The following is an update on the CTU Los Angeles softball team from their manager, Lou Petrocelli:

Hey Bauer, quit f@#$ing with my team!

Two months ago, I would have bet my wife's kidneys that our team was on its way to its second annual softball league championship. We had strong pitching with that Bill Buchanan guy on the mound. And woah Nelly, did we have a power threat with Curtis Manning batting clean-up. Well, after the crap that went down today, I don't even see us finishing with a winning record. And I'm telling you, those a@#holes from the Xerox repair company don't deserve to win the league. They're a bunch of bums, I tell ya!

But how did our team go to pieces, you ask? It all began the second that scrub Jack Bauer showed up. Each time I hear this guy's name, I cringe. I've lost more top-shelf players to Bauer's antics than I care to think about. My best player ever, Tony Almeida, could have played professional ball if he wanted. With Tony, all I had to say was "knock the cover off the ball" and he'd go out there and do damage. And sure enough, two years ago when Bauer comes back from the dead, I lose Tony to the terrorists. Yeah, I hear rumors that Tony didn't really die, and that he's moonlighting in the Arizona league playing for a Pepsi Bottler squad, but dead or not, the bottom line is Tony ain't on my team no more. But that was okay, because I still had Curtis Manning. That guy was a freakin' animal with that swing of his. I remember last year when 'ol "Hot Chocolate" as we liked to call him, came out and hit us three home runs in the championship game. But then Bauer came back from the dead again, and this time he didn't just manage to get my best player killed, Jack went and shot Curtis himself!

Now I gotta use that needle-poker Rick Burke to bat clean-up and I gotta tell ya, the guy freaks me out. He mumbles to himself all day long and when he goes up to hit, he makes the bat boy crank Kenny G music out of a boombox for walk-on music. I would tell Burke to knock it off, but I'm worried I'm gonna end up in a garbage bag in little pieces. And like I said earlier, Bill Buchanan was my ace pitcher. But yet again, with Bauer back in town, Bill loses his job. I gotta talk to that Nadia chick about letting Buchanan stay on the company's team because I have no other pitching options. The other guy, Morris O'Brian, was okay (he learned how to pitch by playing cricket as a kid) but Morris took a 5/8 drill bit to his throwing shoulder! Call me crazy, but somehow I think Bauer had something to do with it.

Why is it Bauer can't shoot Milo or some of the girls in the office? Why does this guy have to come back every two years and get all of my best players killed or fired? I just don't get it. See, a long while back, Bauer was on the team and he was pretty good. Except when he made an out. He'd start screaming at the pitcher "Who do you work for?!" and he's start whaling on the bench with his bat, screaming "DAMMIT!" I'm all for intensity on the field, but Bauer took it too far. And this new kid, Mike Doyle looked good when I first saw him walk through the door, but I'm worried that he's got the same instinct to choke teammates and umpires like Bauer.

Sure, I'm competitive, but I don't ask for much. I just want players that don't keep getting killed. It drives me nuts, I tell ya. Nuts! So, Jack, if you're reading this, please stop killing my team and maybe go drop by the Xerox repair office and even out the kills with those bums. That would be a big help.

THE REAL WORLD: CTU

"This is the true story, of seven strangers, picked to work at the Central Terrorist Unit, fight terrorism together and have their lives taped, to find out what happens, when federal law enforcement employees stop being polite, and start getting real. THE REAL WORLD: CTU- Los Angeles!"

BUCHANAN: Chloe, I don't want you to alert the others, but apparently somebody here has eaten the rest my peanut butter.

CHLOE: You mean there's a traitor inside CTU?

BUCHANAN: Affirmative. You're the only person I can trust- I need you to go through the old confessional booth records and find out if anyone has admitted their guilt.

CHLOE: Mr. Buchanan, those records are above even your security clearance.

BUCHANAN: Chloe, I don't have time for your personality disorder. I gave you a direct order- access the confessional booth records and tell me what you find.

CHLOE: Okay! (rolls her eyes)

Meanwhile, in the CTU hot tub...

MORRIS: So, who do you think is the mole this season?

MILO: Dude, what are you talking about?

MORRIS: Haven't you ever seen this show? Every year the producers like to put a mole into THE REAL WORLD: CTU. They're usually some whacko fundamentalist or something like that. Say, did you happen to see if they stocked the fridge with beer?

MILO: No, man. Maybe you should worry about finding terrorists more than your next drink.

MORRIS: I don't have a bloody drinking problem!

MILO: Whatever, dude. Hey, have you seen that new chick, Nadia? More like "Hottie-A!"

MORRIS: Christ, you wonder why I need a drink working with you...

Back in Buchanan's office/skater half-tube, Chloe enters and her face is grim. Bill gets off his skateboard.

BUCHANAN: What have you got?

CHLOE: It's not good. I have video proof that Nadia was the one that ate your peanut butter. She admits it on a confessional tape. Did you know she's also a Muslim Republican?

BUCHANAN: How could I be so careless... the hot ones are always the mole. (Buchanan removes his skater helmet) Okay, here's what we do. Find Jack and have him come back here to do the interrogation.

CHLOE: What about Rick Burke?

BUCHANAN: Burke's too unstable. We found a hair-doll in his locker with Nadia's face pasted on it. DNA results confirm that the hair used was from Nadia, probably collected from the women's shower.

Chloe visibly shivers.

BUCHANAN: For your own good, I'd keep from looking at Burke's confessional videos. Now hurry and get Jack back to CTU.

Chloe exits.

Meanwhile, on the road Jack is driving through Southern California. His cell phone rings.

JACK: Bauer.

CHLOE: Jack, it's Chloe. Buchanan needs you to return to CTU. We have to interrogate a suspect... Jack, it looks like we have a mole.

JACK: Copy that. What's the damage assessment?

CHLOE: Buchanan's peanut butter jar has been compromised.

JACK: Dammit, we can't keep losing resources like that! Who's the suspect?

CHLOE: Nadia Yasser. I have video of her admitting to taking the peanut butter from a confessional booth recording.

JACK: Was it creamy or chunky, Chloe?

CHLOE: I don't know, I have to check.

JACK: I'm on my way into CTU right now.

CHLOE: Okay, Jack. Hurry!

Back at CTU, Nadia is already in the interrogation room. Rick Burke walks by and notices.

BURKE: Bingo! I got to get my kit!

Jack walks into CTU. Chloe jumps up from her desk to meet him.

JACK: Is everything set up?

CHLOE: Jack, we have a problem. I ran the video through a filter- it's a fake.

JACK: What?

CHLOE: Somebody forged the video to make it look like Nadia ate Buchanan's peanut butter.

Buchanan skates over to Jack and Chloe.

BUCHANAN: What's going on?

JACK: Sweet board, Bill.

BUCHANAN: Thanks, dude. So, what's wrong?

JACK: Somebody has set up Nadia. The confessional tape was a forgery. Where is she?

BUCHANAN: In interrogation room #2. Let's go.

In interrogation room #2, Burke has already started his interrogation. Nadia is strapped down to a chair.

BURKE: Do you love me, Nadia?

NADIA: What the hell am I doing in here?

BURKE: I ask the questions, baby. Do you like veal scallopini? Kenny G? Are you a Libra?

Jack enters with Chloe and Buchanan.

JACK: Burke! Drop the needle!

BURKE: Nuts to that!

JACK: We will vote you out of the house, I swear to you!

BURKE: She's mine, Jack. Little, sweet Nadia, you're all mine.

JACK: Burke, we know the video is a fake. You set this up to get Nadia in your chair. That is so not cool!

BURKE: It doesn't matter anymore. Nothing can separate us.

Milo and Morris enter in their speedos.

JACK: Okay, I warned you, Burke. House vote! Who wants Burke to leave CTU?

They all raise their hands, Nadia just nods her head.

BURKE: Whatever, dudes. This house is lame anyway, I'm outtie.

Burke leaves.

NADIA: Can someone please tell me what the hell is going on here?

JACK: Nadia, my name is Jack Bauer, I'm a federal ag-

NADIA: I know who you are, Jack! You don't have to keep saying that line!

JACK: Okay, well stop being such a bitch! Bill, I'm going back out into the field.

BUCHANAN: If you say so. Now, can somebody tell me where's my f&@%ing peanut butter?

CTU Interrogator Burke = Mariano Rivera

CTU Interrogator Rick Burke gets some love in an excerpt from a "24"-related article in the 2/19/07 issue of The New Yorker magazine:

A character named Burke—a federal employee of the C.T.U. who carries a briefcase filled with elephantine hypodermic needles—has proved indispensable. “He’ll inject chemicals that cause horrible pain that can knock down your defenses—a sort of sodium pentothal plus,” [Executive Producer Howard] Gordon said. “When we’re stuck, we say, ‘Call Burke!’”

Note: Of course, the article is a sober discussion of the use/misuse of torture in "24" and as much as we appreciate "smarty talk," we here at The Jack Sack are devoted to avoiding it at all costs (but feel free to read the article if you're interested). The important part of the article, as far as we're concerned, is that the writers and producers of "24" love our friend Burke. Hopefully, that means we'll be seeing more of the guy in the future.

Little About Me: Hey, I'm Rick, but everyone I know calls me "Burke." I'm a fun-loving, laid-back guy who tries to keep his work at the office (man, don't we all?). I fill my free-time with hobbies- I love to cook, I'm an amateur botanist, I play the jazz saxophone, and I have devoted myself to the intravenous use of inhibitory neurotransmitters, truly an overlooked art-form.

About My Ideal Match: I really focus on a girl's eyes. They say that eyes are the window into a person's soul. I know that when I look into a woman's eyes I can see her whole mind at work. I also like a girl with solid body language. I like confident gestures, I feel a lot more comfortable with a girl that doesn't look left or right when talking. Shifty eyes are such a turn-off!

What I've Learned From Past Relationships: I've been burned, you could say. My first girlfriend was the love of my life. We were engaged when I found out she was messing around with my best friend. That's when I started putting up walls inside. I've tried dating since, but I guess it takes time to make things right again, ya know? Right now I operate under the assumption that all women lying, deceitful bloodsuckers. But hey, maybe you can prove me wrong!

My Ideal Date: You can come to my place, like I said, I like to cook. I'll make my specialty: veal scallopini, which I like to serve with steamed asparagus and a light Pino Grigio. Then I'd want for us to have an in-depth conversation; I want to get to know you- your likes, dislikes, plans for the future, and any relevant past acts that might effect any potential relationship between the two of us. If you're really adventurous, you'll consent to my setting you up with my brand-new thermal-imaging camera. I can record the whole conversation and you and I will have that memory to cherish for years to come. But I'm a spontaneous guy, we can employ any number of methods to "stimulate" our conversation, that all depends on how talkative you're feeling at the time. And while we're having our talk (and you'll secured to this really comfy chair I got in the back office), I can also play a little jazz saxophone for you! Man, I love it so much, I can play for hours. So, if this sounds like your ideal date too, email me and we can get together!
